In Case You Missed It: Your Luck Didn’t Run Out in March…April is Here to Shower Fans With More Great Horror News; So Let’s Hop To It!

Still from 1988’s Critters 2

And then, the sheriff dressed as the Easter Bunny was mauled and then chucked through the window of a church (Critters 2). Yup, well Easter has come and gone folks. Yet the horror news remains in my basket. So I begin…

COMING ATTRACTIONS

“HALLOWEEN” WILL PAY HOMAGE TO THE OTHER SEQUELS, SAYS DANNY MCBRIDE

Set for release this October, the infamous Michael Myers is ready to return to the big screen — but this time around, as we all know by now, in a sequel bypassing all the past sequels. Although that doesn’t mean everything in those sequels is to be forgotten. Danny Mcbride, co-writer of the flick explains, courtesy of Flickering Myth:

“We do [reference the other movies]. For fans, we pay homage and respect to every Halloween that has been out there.”

The reported “requel” to the first film will in fact reunite Myers actor Nick Castle, in his title role, with Jamie Lee Curtis portraying Laurie Strode and John Carpenter on board as executive producer. Judy Greer (War for the Planet of the Apes), Andi Matichak (Orange Is the New Black), Will Patton (Shots Fired), Virginia Gadner (Runaways), Miles Robbins (Mozart in the Jungle), Dylan Arnold (Mudbound) and Drew Scheid (Stranger Things) also star.

“Laurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.”

Michael returns to theaters October 19th, 2019. But let’s just hope when he does, we won’t be asking, “Was THAT the boogeyman?”

HERE’S WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR ABOUT “THE NUN”

Shooting off of the largely successful The Conjuring franchise, The Nun went into production. Marking Corin Hardy as director with Master Of Horror James Wan (I swear to god this man is a Master Of Horror, don’t even try and argue it) as executive produce, leaving fans (at least I was!) clamoring for news on it.

Here’s what I found out..

Who’s directing?

Directing this pic will be Corin Hardy. And once the director wraps, he’ll spear off to direct a reboot to 1994’s The Crow. The reboot will star Jason Momoa (the original starred the likes of Brandon Lee, Rochelle Davis and Ernie Hudson).

Who’s writing?

Gary Dauberman, the man behind, and still behind mind you, the newest IT adaption (hello, IT chapter 2!), is the writer of The Nun. Dauberman’s other credits include [fellow The Conjuring spinoff] Annabelle Creation and it’s predecessor, Annabelle. Dauberman is also said to be writing a feature film version of Nickelodeon’s Are You Afraid Of The Dark.

Where will it be filmed?

The spin-off is said to be filming in Romania, a part of the world which is also said to have had the likes of The Seed Of Chucky and the recent Crucifixion blockbusters filmed there [in the past] as well. Writer of The Nun, Dauberman, speaking on filming in this location with Hardy told EW last year, “Because of Dracula and all that, you’re like, ‘Well, I would love to go Transylvania, but I didn’t feel I would ever have the chance.’ Lo and behold, James [Wan] has this idea: ‘Hey, I really think The Nun needs to be set in Romania.’ You’re like, ‘F—, alright!’ And you go there, and you realize, Oh, this is why he wants to set it in Romania. The production value, with the castles, and the mountains — it’s so beautiful and grand. And there’s not many people better to be with in Romania and Transylvania than Corin Hardy, who lives and breathes this stuff. He had endless ideas. It was another great working experience, within the Conjuring universe.”

Who will star?

As it’s predecessor starred a Farmiga, so shall it; The Nun cast Taissa Farmiga, sister of The Conjuring 2 star Vera Farmiga. Taissa’s known credits include American Horror Story and 2015’s The Final Girls.

Bonnie Aarons is said to reprise her role as the demon nun (can you remember the demon’s name? I do! Check the bottom of this article for the answer) alongside Demian Bichir, Charlotte Hope, Jonas Bloquet and Ingrid Bisu.

What’s it about?

The hyped up spinoff will in fact follow the story of a priest (Bichr) investigating the death of a nun in Rome. Interesting side note; this plot is sort of the same as The Crucifixion. I sh*t you not.

Will there be practical effects?

Yup! So practical effects in THE NUN is Hardy’s go-to, according to an interview he did with The Movie Crypt. The director gushed, “I’ve come from a love of practical [effects].”

Continuing on Hardy says, “It’s not just nostalgic, it’s things being real and tangible, and you can light them in front of the camera if they’re there, you can touch them, people can see them, you can make them wet and they look great. All of that stuff you can do in CG but it takes such a lot of work to do it to the right level…I always want to say, ‘Let’s do everything as much as we possibly can for real, including in-camera stunts, effects, and then use the CGI to be beautiful, original, invisible tool.’”.

Being that as it may, I wish this spinoff the best of luck. But let’s just face it…was there ever a bad The Conjuring film or spin-off?

The Nun’ haunts theaters September 7th.

ANDY MUSCHIETTI SAYS, “WAKE UP, LOSERS!” IS “IT: CHAPTER 2” MOVING FORWARD?

Production on the sequel to box-office hit, IT (2017) was expected to jump into play ASAP. And now so it shall; Being that it’s the beginning of April, it’s already been about seven months since IT hit theaters. Now Andi Muschietti has posted this pic on Instagram:

IT (2017) was based off of Stephen King’s novel, IT. Having already been adapted back in 1990 starring Tim Curry, the 2017 adaptation starred Bill Skarsgard. While Chapter 1 focuses on the story of the children, Chapter 2 will do the work of revealing the tale of the adult Losers. Like the novel, the film is expected to have the adult Losers face the IT demon, once again, as a group.

A cast still hasn’t been locked down as of yet, but I’m sure it’s safe to say the original cast — including Wyatt Oleff, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Jackson Robert Scott, Jeremy Ray Taylor  and Jack Dylan Grazer — are fair game to return. Jessica Chastain is still optioned for the role of adult Beverly.

If It Chapter 2 is filming soon, then stay tuned to this spot for more by next month — so I can collect for you the bulk, give you the gist and filter out the B.S. (wink).

“TRUTH OR DARE?” DARE. I DARE YOU TO SEE BLUMHOUSE’S LATEST RELEASE

Starring a pack of Hollywood commoners, Blumhouse’s Truth Or Dare hits theaters come next week. The titular horror pic seems to set a goal to taint a childhood game with the greasy cold hands of horror, and I’ve been on board since I first saw the trailer.

Wadlow bestows credit of script scribe along with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs, from a story by Michael Reisz, Wadlow, Roach and Jacobs.

GHOSTFACE RETURNS THIS SPRING? MTV’S SCREAM STAR TEASES THE SERIES RETURN

As fans and myself clamor for SCREAM season 3, thanks to Keke Palmer (former star of FOX’s Scream Queens, current cast member of MTV’s Scream), we all can rest easy [well sorta;)]; With Forbes, Palmer said she’s unsure when Scream will be released but likely “[it’ll be] soon” and that it looked “great”. The site says likely the release will be this Spring. The series was rumored to be released last month, yet Harvey Weinstein and his past put a damper on that one.

[Forbes] “Palmer is also set to star in Scream, which was at one time executive produced by the beleaguered Weinsteins,” the site reads. “It’s an affiliation that caused a “little holdup” and at the time of the interview she didn’t know exactly when it would release. Weinstein’s credit was reportedly removed from the upcoming season.”

MTV’s Scream, based off the late Wes Craven’s Scream franchise, banged out two seasons and a two-part event. Yet, this time around for season 3, the series will get a reboot and will bring Craven’s mask along for the ride. The new season revolves around Deion Elliot, a local star running-back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future — and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.

When it does return, the third season will be a six-episode event starring Palmer among RJ Cyler (I’m Dying Up Here), Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why), Jessica Sula (Recovery Road), rapper Tyga (aka Michael Ray Stevenson), C.J. Wallace and Giullian Yao Gioiello (Julie’s Greenroom).

Catch Scream soon.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 4 TRAILER DROPPED

Season four of Fear The Walking Dead debuts by the middle of the month with a major crossover sure to draw ratings; A crossover that is of Lennie James’ Morgan Jones, which I talked about back in December. To hype the event, AMC dropped an official trailer featuring James, with James doing what he does best — being-bad-freakin’ ass! Take a look!

“In Season Four, we will see the world of Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and her family through new eyes — the eyes of Morgan Jones (Lennie James), who is joining the story from the world of The Walking Dead,” Fear the Walking Dead’s Season Four synopsis reads. “The characters’ immediate pasts mix with an uncertain present of struggle and discovery as they meet new friends, foes and threats. They fight for each other, against each other and against a legion of the dead to somehow build an existence against the crushing pressure of lives coming apart. There will be darkness and light; terror and grace; and the heroic, mercenary and craven, all crashing together toward a new reality for Fear the Walking Dead.”

Lennie James revealed during an earlier interview with CB the way he exits TWD for Fear:

“The springboard that goes from The Walking Dead to Fear is a real… He goes with some kind of trajectory. It is a full, well-thought out journey that Morgan goes on. A lot of it is tied to his relationship with Rick. A lot of it is tied to his relationship to this group of people that he feels conflicted about caring for and wanting to protect”.

Also, by the way, this was James’ choice to jump-ship *ahem* crossover. Here’s the TWD alum on the subject with Forbes“It wasn’t a case of ‘This is going to happen,’ it was genuinely a case of what I thought about it. There was absolutely a choice.”

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on AMC. Fear the Walking Dead will debut it’s fourth season after The Walking Dead concludes it’s eighth, at 10 pm ET on April 15. The Walking Dead‘s season eight finale and Fear The Walking Dead‘s season four debut will air in AMC, Cinemark, Regal and Fathom Theaters nationwide [Variety] “Tickets are available beginning March 16 from the Fathom Events website, and TWD Fan Reward Club members can purchase the tickets now.

The in-theater experience will also include an extra half-hour of exclusive bonus content, making the screenings begin at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT instead of the on-air 9 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.”

Stay tuned.

“GOOSEBUMPS 2” FILMING UPDATE; MAJOR TRICK-OR-TREATING SCENE FILMED MARCH 26

The yearned-for return of Slappy is said to be hitting the big screen come October, and according to Atlanta Magazine, filming has already been churning away — like it should be.

The site reads: When we first started tracking filming in the Hollywood of the South way back in 2014, Goosebumps was filming in Atlanta. Now, four years later, its sequel, Goosebumps: Slappy Halloween (GUMMY), has set up shop. Starring Jack Black, Madison Iseman, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Chris Parnell, and Ken Jeong, the film is rumored to focus on the iconic, 90s-nostalgia-inducing Goosebumps character Slappy the Dummy. Goosebumps started early March in Kirkwood and has been spotted repeatedly in the neighborhood since then. Additional signs were up on March 22. Outside Kirkwood, signs were placed in Decatur on the 21st. A major Trick-Or-Treating scene was shot back in Kirkwood on the 26th.

Let’s just hope this sequel is a hit like it’s predecessor was. Because, hey, who wouldn’t want more Goosebumps? And hey, why isn’t anybody picking up Goosebumps for a TV series? Nickelodeon? Cartoon Network? Free Form?… HBO? Anybody???! Revive Goosebumps: The TV Series!

Stay tuned for the return of your fav dummy October 12th.

NETFLIX AND KILL

SORRY RIVERDALE. YOU CAN’T MEET SABRINA; ARCHIE EXEC SAYS THERE’S NO RIVERDALE-CHILLING CROSSOVER

Courtesy of TVLine

There isn’t like a working name yet for the Netflix adaption of the The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina comics, but the series HAS already been picked up for season 2 with a cast locked. Now Chilling, being a comic series and a part of the Archie series like the CW’s Riverdale is, leaves fans to do what? Hope. For. A. Crossover! Well, sorry fans. Ya’ ain’t’ gettin’ one!

Here’s what Riverdale executive producer and Archie Comics CEO, Jon Goldwater, had to say to TVLine on the subject:

“Right now, we’re not thinking about [a possible crossover],” Goldwater continued on claiming both series are “two separate entities for right now.”

But. But. And I’ll throw another but in there, maybe there’s hope; Goldwater didn’t entirely forfeit the idea. The CEO continued, “[I’d] love it if [Netflix and The CW] could figure out a way to cross over [Riverdale and The Chilling’ adaption].”

But (another “but” people), I do have a more interesting [less depressing] news drop up my sleeve…say A PIC OF HARVEY AND SABRINA! AHHHHH!

Here’s Robert Aguire-Sacasa’s (Chilling writer) caption to his reveal on Twitter:

“Well, it’s out there. A 1st look at Harvey and Sabrina from the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”. Below you’ll find the pic.

(from left) Ross Lynch as Harvey Kinkle, Kieran Shipka as Sabrina Spellman. Picture courtesy of Robert Aguirre-Sacasa

Check out the rest of the cast here!

Chilling doesn’t have a release date. But judging how it’s said to be released this year…my bet is October.

Stay tuned here for more.

“STRANGER THINGS” ARE DEFINITELY GOING ON HERE; SEASON 3 NEWS AND HHN DEBUT

Fans of the hit, Stranger Things, should be ecstatic right now. For one, there’s news of season 3. Second, the hit show is heading to Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights THIS YEAR!

To begin, let’s discuss what we know so far about Stranger Things Season 3:

1. Season 3 is said to begin with everybody coupling up, between Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown) and Mike (Finn Wolfhard) to Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Max (Sadie Sink).

2. Steven Harrington (Joe Kerry) has “more of a role in season 3.” Here’s Shawn Levy (Stranger Things executive producer) on Kerry’s casting:

“We’ll definitely get to see some more of Steve Harrington in season three, and I’ll just say we won’t be abandoning the Dad Steve magic. I don’t want to say much more, but I literally feel that we were walking along and we stumbled onto a gold mine with Dad Steve.”

3. Season 3 will reference Back To The Future (1985) at one point or another.

4. Production on the new season is going into play soon, but nobody has even seen a script. However, what is being revealed is season 3 is set one year after season 2, in the summer of 1985.

On a different note…

Stranger Things meets Universal Halloween Horror Nights!

Ok, so there’s a press release dropped, but here’s the skinny: Netflix partnered with HNN to create a maze of their hit Stranger Things. The maze will take fans through Hawkins where they’ll be greeted by the series’ famed flashing Christmas Lights, the Demogorgon, “the eerie Upside Down woods oozing a shower of floating orb-like spores” and then some. The maze, along with the theme park, opens September 14th in Orlando and Hollywood, but September 28th for Singapore’s park.

Visit here for tickets to HNN.

FRIDAY THE 13TH GAMES: EVERYTHING  YOU NEED TO KNOW

So,two Jason Voorhees related gaming news breaks were dropped. I read them, and here’s what I mustered up from it all…

For one, there’s this whole new improvement to counselor Al on Friday The 13th: The Game‘s offline bots game mode that was just boasted by the “shifty samurai” on Reddit.

Shifty Samurai:

  • AI will now be equipped with Perks that better match the selected difficulty level. Playing on Hard? The counselors might be packing a Perk that starts them out with a defensive item, just like their human counterparts.
  • AI will be better at choosing a hiding spot, and what cabins they should enter based on the number of other counselors in the cabin.
  • At higher difficulties, counselors will more carefully select and use weapons, especially weighing their chance to stun. They’ll probably ditch that stick for something that packs a bit more punch.
  • AI might not be able to appreciate music, but higher difficulty AI will use the radios located in the cabins as a means of distraction.
  • Higher difficulty AI can shoot more accurately, place traps, and will attempt to open Jason’s traps with pocket knives.
  • They have become better at repairing vehicles and letting friends into a repaired car before they take off, as well as getting back onto the road in case they wreck.
  • Counselors will react more realistically to sounds – broken windows, doors, walls – and depending on difficulty and the counselor you snatch up, they may have an easier time of breaking free of Jason’s grasp.
  • We believe that these changes will allow our Jason players to face a greater challenge against the Offline Bot AI.

So I guess now the hunted is becoming the hunter.

Second, there’s a new Friday the 13th inspired game fans will definitely want to check out. It’s called Friday The 13th: Killer Puzzle. This one features over a hundred levels, all of which include Jason mask deviations inspired by the movie. It’s currently available to download from Apple’s App Store by Blue Wizard Media. But it’s now awaiting release on Steam come April 13th — which falls on Friday (wink).

Here’s the game description per Friday The 13th: Killer Puzzle Game‘s steam page:

“Help legendary horror icon Jason Voorhees stalk and slay campers across 100+ puzzle levels in a hilariously off kilter puzzle game. Jason will terrorize victims from the campgrounds of Crystal Lake to the highrises of Manhattan, from supermax prisons to space stations… and beyond!”

Stay posted. I’ll feed you more come May.

Now, on a related note, this month has a Friday The 13th. I expect my readers are going to be doing a Friday The 13th marathon, because I sure am.

And remember, you can count on me for your “need to know, B.S. filtered out updates, every month.

Stayed tuned HERE for May’s update.
