If you’re a dedicated reader, you know that I swing by once a month to catch you up on everything you may have missed in the world of horror. Last month, we talked Cult of Chucky, Jeepers Creepers 3, Ash vs Evil Dead, and much more. Halloween may be over, but there’s a ton more horror goodness headed your way. Read on to get all the gory details.

INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY
Struggles of concealment. A stranger’s hands reaching under the bed, with keys for fingers and cobwebs to set the mood. Fear leaks from Insidious: The Last Key‘s latest U.K. art.
Last month, we got a trailer, poster and release date for the highly anticipated new sage in the Insidious franchise. Here’s the official synopsis:
“In the supernatural thriller, which welcomes back franchise standout Lin Shaye as Dr. Elise Rainier, the brilliant parapsychologist faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet: in her own family home.”
This month, we get a brand new U.K. poster.
As for talent and crew, as previously reported, here’s the lineup: Lin Shaye returns to her role as Elise Reiner with Josh Stewart, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Kirk Acevedo, Bruce Davison, Spencer Locke and Caitlin Gerard starring her opposite.
Tom Fitzpatrick, known as “The Bride Of Black” in the Insidious franchise, claimed,”I know no more about the new “Insidious” than you do,” when asked (by yours truly on THTerrorTime) his thoughts on the upcoming sequel. The actor then went on to dish that Lin Shaye and him spoke over Facebook, and Shaye boasted, “The script was very good.” It doesn’t seem likely Fitzpatrick will return to the franchise (he appeared in Chapters 2 & 3).

DAY OF THE DEAD: BLOODLINE
Millennium Films’ Day Of The Dead: Bloodline rehash hits theaters this upcoming January, and it looks to be either more of the same or awesome. Right now I’m in between.
From the film’s promotional pics (released via Bloody Disgusting), we get a first look at Johnathon Schnach as the infamous Bub. My thoughts? Like I said, I’m in-between on this rehash. And I say rehash, because it’s a rehashing of George Romero’s classic Day Of The Dead. A part of me screams, “I CAN’T WAIT! Another zombie movie! Maybe it’ll be done like the other Romero rehash, Dawn Of The Dead?!” But then, another part of me feels like this is more of the same. Let’s just hope this rehash is exceptional.
Wait for the hoard to swarm on January 5, 2018.
HALLOWEEN 2018
“The Shape” returns in a fresh take on the franchise, which ignores all sequels and gives Laurie Strode a(nother) daughter.
I spoke about Halloween (2018) in a previous update, originally reporting that the film had a targeted October 19th, 2018 release date. We knew that Paranormal Activity actress, Chloe Csengery, and Daredevil actress, Allison Winn, were attached to the cast. But now I’m back with a bombshell. Halloween 2018 will in fact star Jamie Lee Curtis and ignore all the previous sequels in the franchise. In a reveal by Danny McBride, co-writer for the flick, we learn about this huge news:
“We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one, it picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality. It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way.”
Curtis is said return to the franchise, in-light of this plot change, in her iconic role as Laurie Strode. She will now have a daughter, portrayed by Judy Greer. The character of Laurie Strode went through numerous changes during the original franchise, including hospitalization (twice), giving birth to two children (one being Jamie Lloyd, played by popular scream queen Danielle Harris), and even death — both a fake and a real one.
The character became beloved as a tragic heroine, one who carried a lot of baggage as a result of being stalked by her murderous brother for decades. But now she’s cleansed. If ALL SEQUELS ARE IGNORED, that means Laurie and Michael aren’t related. Would that, in a way, make Laurie a weaker character?
I’m intrigued to say the least. Stay tuned!

Hellraiser: Judgement nabbed Heather Lankenkamp from her A Nightmare On Elm Street throne, kicked Doug Bradley off his Hellraiser throne and now has Paul T. Taylor in the role of Pinhead. And I have to say, “Bravo,”
Speaking with The Movie Crypt, series makeup artist, Gary Tunnicliffe boasted, “I had the most fun that I’ve ever had, and I’ve never worked so hard on a Hellraiser film, but we had a great time.”
Tunnicliffe then continued, “We did two scenes. For one, the actress almost passed out — a scene that you especially, Adam, are going to freak the fuck out. I’ll tell you off-air about it, and you’re going to be like, ‘Jesus Christ’. Involving a small dog. No, the dog doesn’t get hurt. But it does go through some…trauma. And then we had two grips leave the set during a sequence when they said, ‘This is utterly screwed up.'”
Now does a film being “utterly screwed up” really classify as a MUST in a horror film? I think not. In this journalist’s opinion, Horror films, especially ones like Hellraiser, would benefit a lot more if they would cut down on trying to be utterly screwed up and instead ventured down the route of just dramatic yet scary…gory, but tasteful and less sexual.
That’s my opinion. Frankly I feel kind of embarrassed to be seen watching Hellraiser for its maximum sexuality. But that’s just me. And it really is “just me”; Here’s what our new Pinhead , Paul T. Taylor, had to say via TrunkSpace:
“I think people are going to be fascinated with it and the gore elements that we get from like the ‘Saw’ movies and the things that are total, what I would say, on the border of horror porn,” he added. “There’s some elements of [‘horror porn’] in it and that will please many ‘Hellraiser’ fans and many fans of just what contemporary horror can be these days where it’s just a gross-out.”
As previously noted, Heather Langenkamp stars in the flick, along with Damon Carney, Randy Wayne, Alexandra Harris, John Gulagher, Mike Jay Regan, Diane Goldner, Andi Powers, Jeff Fenter, Helena Grace Donald, and Grace Montie.

GAME ON
FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE GAME
Friday The 13th: The Game fans rejoice; Game developers are raising the level cap to 150 from 101, and upping-the-anty 49 more levels! The new levels will of course include new skins, new counselors and new clothing. Plus, there’ll be additional add-ons.
So that’s exciting.

Friday The 13th: The Game is inspired by the hit horror franchise, and this information will be new to you only if you’ve been living under a rock! F13: The Game, which has yet to follow suit with the VR era, allows the player to either play as Icon of Horror Jason or as a counselor fighting for their life. Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees from Friday 7-9) is back as the iconic killer, and the game features Jason skins from select Friday The 13th films.
The game is now available for PS4 and XBox One from major retailers like Target and GameStop.
STRANGER THINGS: “FEED DART” GAME
So everybody and their mother loves Stranger Things, and now the love fest can continue. The wildly popular Netflix Original Series just released a new interactive video game titled simply “Feed Dart”. The game allows you to upload a pic of your choosing and, well, feed it to dart.
“Feed Dart” comes straight off of the third episode of Stranger Things 2, entitled “The Pollywog”. Batting a wink to the genre teeter-totter/Christmas flick also known as [Steven] Spielberg’s “Gremlins”, the episode finds Dustin adopting a pet he dubs Dart, a trouble-making little creature.
A trouble-making little creature that Netflix has now pawned on you, the unsuspecting public.
Go Feed Dart, before he takes matters into his own hands!
THE MAIN ATTRACTION
ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?
Now this. This has me excited.
I wasn’t born when “Are You Afraid Of The Dark?” ran in its glory in the 90s. But I discovered it…and fell in love with it…via re-runs and my DVD collection of the series. In my opinion, the series still holds up to the test of time.
The Nickelodeon series followed a group of teens who dubbed themselves “The Midnight Society”. In a secret spot in the woods lit by bonfire, they would gather to tell campfire stories — from ghost stories to fairytales. The series’ episodes boasted several notable stars. Two that come to mind immediately are Neve Campbell of genre fame (Scream, The Craft) and Sabrina The Teenage Witch princess, Melissa Joan Hart.
The anthology spawned 7 seasons during its original run, from 1992-96, with an additional season/series reboot back in 1999 with new writers and show runners.
Currently, according to Variety, Horror writer Gary Dauberman (IT, Annabelle: Creation) has taken the reins as Writer for AYOTD (Are You Afraid Of The Dark), the film version, with Matt Kaplin as producer. At the point, we don’t yet have a plot. So stay tuned for more!
